Solenoids

Solenoids

Woodward solenoids are found on the dirtiest, hottest engines operating in the most extreme conditions in the world—such as hazardous environment or submerged conditions. We know that your engine’s control system has to work perfectly, no matter where that engine is running or what it is running. That’s why OEMs team up with Woodward engineers when solenoids are key components of their control systems.
To provide long life and high reliability in the toughest engine application, Woodward solenoids are designed with hard chrome plated plungers, brass sleeve plunger guides, strong steel housings and brackets, and premium silicon rubber or epichlorohydrin solenoid boots.
Whatever your stroke, force, voltage, mounting, sealing, or contamination protection requirements, you’ll find a Woodward solenoid to meet your needs. Or, we can custom design one for your exact specifications.

•Single and dual coil construction
•Hard chrome plated plunger and brass liner for smooth, reliable, wear-resistant operation, tested on one million cycles
•Corrosion resistant plated steel housing and mounting base/flange
•Choice of flange, threaded, or base mountings
•Electrical connections available with choice of screw or spade terminals, or wire/connectors
•Bellows or constant volume boot types available

Single-Coil Solenoids

1000S-Series

1000S Series “Locking Solenoids”

Heavy-duty locks designed for side-load resistance in hydraulic or mechanical applications. Plunger can withstand 1500 pounds of side load in the de-energized position.

1510S-Series

1510S Series

Typically designed for continuous duty, with a single coil performing both the pull and hold function for the solenoid.

 Solenoid-Control-Electronics

Solenoid Control Electronics

Woodward’s extensive line of solenoid protection products feature either external or internal electronics. Coil Commanders™ and PCTMs (Pull Coil Timer Modules) are externally attached to the solenoid to prevent overheating of the pull coil. ICE (Integrated Coil Electronics) and AICE (Advanced ICE) solenoids have built-in electronics that prevent overheating of the pull coil.
• Prevent overheating of the solenoid pull coil
• Coil Commander and Pull Coil Timer Modules (PCTMs) with external attachment to the solenoid
• ICE (Integrated Coil Electronics) and AICE (Advanced ICE) solenoids with built-in electronics

External Solenoid Control Electronics

5-Wire-Coil-Commander

5-Wire Coil Commander

Provides the functionality of an internally switched solenoid when used with a 3-wire externally switched solenoid.

 Wire-Coil-Commander

6-Wire Coil Commander

Plugs into existing externally switched (ES) solenoid installations without wiring modification when used with optional connectors. Works with installations connected to “S” terminal on starter.

7-Wire-SSR-Coil-Commander

7-Wire SSR Coil Commander
(Solid State Relay)

Provides the functionality of an internally switched solenoid when used with a 4-wire externally switched solenoid. Eliminates the need for a separate solenoid relay.

Pull-Coil-Timer-Modules

Pull Coil Timer Modules (PCTMs)

3- and 6-wire configurations for externally switched (ES) solenoids.

Internal (Integrated) Solenoid Electronics

ICE

ICE (Integrated Coil Electronics)
for Dual Coil Solenoids

A printed circuit board mounted integrated into a dual-coil solenoid provides a timer circuit for the pull coil. The PCB functions as an internal timer that switches the pull coil ON and OFF so that the solenoid does not burn itself out.

AICE AICE (Advanced Integrated Coil Electronics) for Single Coil Solenoids
Electronics integrated into a single-coil solenoid control the solenoid’s current to provide high initial starting force and a constant hold force. Learn more.
